The Musical Gardens

Enjoy the largest open air sculpture museum in the world to the sound of baroque music at the heart of Château de Versailles classic French style gardens. You’ll encounter statues of Apollo, Proserpina, the Marmosets and other sometimes hidden treasures. You can also admire the topiaries shaped by hand by the artist gardeners of Château de Versailles.The recently inaugurated Water Theatre Grove will aslo offer the exquisite performance of its sculpture fountains playing and the Mirror Pool its water show to the sound of Lully and Charpentier.

Monteverdi : Vespro della Beata Vergine

In 2010, 2014 and 2015, Sir John Eliot Gardiner came to Versailles with these Vespers; he and his Monteverdi Choir are exceptional interpreters of this immense musical fresco to which they go back again and again.
It is the first great masterpiece of baroque music and is still today a one of the beacons of our universal music heritage. Gardiner founded the Monteverdi Choir, one of the best choirs in the world, for this masterpiece.
A unique event bringing together Gardiner, Monteverdi and Versailles.

Mozart : Cosi Fan Tutte

In the famous trilogy Da Ponte signed with Mozart, Così fan tutte is the most “concentrated” on two couples of lovers, observed under the magnifying glass of feelings. Of course, there is the deception organized by the two lovers to test their mistresses and Da Ponte’s science of interlacing twists and turns to add energy to the plot. But it is Mozart who has the last word with his unequaled music to express these feelings…This Così completes a trilogy performed at the historical Drottningholm theatre and at the Royal Opera by Ivan Alexandre and Marc Minkowski, The Musiciens du Louvre and the magnificent troupe of soloists gathered for three years.

Vivaldi : The Four Seasons

A Court Ballet, how curious! Over the last four years Sébastien Daucé set himself the challenge to revive one on stage. After the reconstruction of the magnificent and incredibly varied music, here is Louis XIV’s beloved dance. Francesca Lattuada brings her baroque universe, her extravagant bestiary, and her grotesque follies to the staging and choreography of this ballet which ends at dawn with the apparition of Louis XIV as the Sun… The absolute Versailles myth!

Philippe Jaroussky : Handel Recital

Philippe Jaroussky’s passion for Handel is always invigorated by the possibility of tracing an ideal portrait of the baroque period, notably of the vanished castrati’s art. This recital is composed of a selection of extremely virtuoso arias, composed by Handel during his most productive period.

Ballet Preljocaj : Playlist #1

Playlist #1 expresses all the range of Angelin Preljocaj choreographic language, his predilection for texts, his taste for the introspection of beings and the value of symbols. A pure concentrate of virtuoso dancing that plunges us into a state of grace or ecstatic contemplation. It is haute couture, custom made for the skin and flesh of the dancers who bring life to his inspiration. This programme develops a voyage through his work and through time.

Monteverdi : Selva Morale e Spirituale

The Selva Morale e Spirituale is a splendid collection of sacred compositions by Monteverdi published in 1640, an anthology of masterpieces of the level of the famous Vespers published in 1610.
William Christie has gathered a score of magnificent soloists; he will be conducting from the harpsichord to honor the beauty of Monteverdi’s art.

Bizet : Carmen

Carmen is Bizet’s masterpiece, the most representative of French operas, maybe the most often performed opera in the world. Gypsies, bandits, soldiers and toreadors inhabit a work where all passions are drawn to extremes, from love to death.
Jean-Christophe Spinosi promises us a mix of French and Spanish tones for an explosive Carmen.
